Indeed, there is more to going to the mountains than just skiing, even for a weekend. Here are some ideas for having fun with your little ones in the snow, even when the weather is not so good.
The great classic: sledging
While they are not yet able to stand on their own two feet, the youngest children can be placed on a sledge which is pulled by a rope. The youngest children can then have their first gliding sensations and enjoy a walk at the foot of the slopes.
Tobogganing appeals to young and old alike, and even to the very old!
Anglais (GB) When can your little one start skiing? Tobogganing appeals to young and old alike, and even to the very old!
In the first instance you can offer the pleasure of feeling the slide by offering cross-country skiing. Nowadays, there are clubs dedicated to children under the age of five that teach Nordic skiing.
For the more motivated, downhill skiing is offered by the pioupiou clubs which welcome children from the age of 4. Playful areas are set up in the Ski Schools, mixing games and first experiences of skiing.
Snow Games
Wrapped up children can have fun digging, sliding or building with snow. You can also organise a little snowman competition and get your hands dirty by sharing this activity with your children.
The more courageous can also try their hand at building a real igloo that will impress the children. However, you need good snow conditions and perseverance or you can get a little help by using a structure to build a safe igloo. This fun activity can be used to explain to the children how the people of the far north live and, above all, to let them play with each other in the structure thus built.
Finally try the magic of a dog sled ride
More and more mountain resorts are offering the opportunity to discover dog sledding for an initiation or a longer ride.
Before the ride, the Musher (driver of the sled and master of the dog pack) will introduce you to his dogs and will give you various information on the functioning of the pack and on the activity you are going to practice… it’s exciting!
Skating in the open air
In the larger resorts that have the facilities, ice skating is popular with children. They can be introduced to skating from a very young age. The rinks also offer accessories that allow the little ones to discover skating in complete safety.
